DescriptionHeathrow’s Net Zero Plan sets a course to decarbonise the airport and play our role in decarbonising the wider aviation sector too. The plan seeks to achieve net zero for all emissions in our footprint by 2050, with interim targets to reduce carbon emissions ‘in the air’ and ‘on the ground’ by 2030.
This role will lead the strategy to deliver our 2030 carbon reduction target and keep Heathrow on a trajectory to deliver our 2050 net zero goal ‘on the ground’.
Responsibilities
- Act as the strategic lead and SME for the decarbonisation of the airport on the ground, shaping and developing our net zero strategy for surface access, supply chain, operational vehicles and buildings and infrastructure.
- Act as a technical SME for the net zero transition on the ground keeping up to date with the latest insights on policy direction, industry trends, research and innovation and sharing key insights and updates with relevant teams across the business.
- Drive and shape the wider organisational effort to embed PAS2080 into how Heathrow delivers infrastructure development and deliver the reduction in carbon emissions required to meet our net zero plan targets and trajectory. This is also coordinated and supports our zero-waste strategy and circularity of resources.
- Act as sponsor for key carbon-related capital investment projects in Heathrow’s ‘Carbon Programme’, including the roll out of EV charging for operational vehicles and ground support equipment. Ensuring projects can deliver business benefits and outcomes on time and budget.
- Identify key investments and help to develop business cases, where required, to deliver the net zero strategy on the ground. Support the business planning process for net zero contributing to our annual and five yearly business plans.
- Identify and support commercial opportunities in the net zero transition to deliver value or lower the cost on the net zero transition.
- Provide carbon-related technical support and data and commentary for annual corporate reporting, annual forecasting and communications and help shape and support our overall messaging for our activity in delivering net zero on ground
Qualifications
- Strong background in carbon with a broad understanding of the market, technology and policy landscape
- Good working level knowledge of the technical aspects of decarbonising sources of emissions that Heathrow generates on the ground.
- Experience in decarbonising construction and implementing the PAS2080 standard within an organisation
- Ability to maintain a strategic focus and translate long-term strategic outcomes into effective delivery plans and activity with defined milestones and outcomes.
- Demonstrable experience of effective stakeholder management and leading virtual teams and achieving results through others.
