Job Description:
This is a fixed term parental leave cover position.
As the Senior Sustainability Manager Social, act as bp's Group lead for social sustainability and the recognised subject matter expert on human rights, labour rights, community engagement and just transition. Lead social sustainability direction and priorities. Provide company-wide oversight of emerging social risks and opportunities. Advise on policy and regulatory developments. Oversee external reporting and disclosures. Support businesses in handling workforce, supply chain and community impacts. Through strategic leadership, external engagement and influence, help integrate social sustainability into business strategy, governance, risk management and value creation.
- Lead the Group level identification, assessment and management of priority social sustainability risks. Ensure social risks are reflected in risk management processes and strategic decision-making, including in the functional assurance of investment cases.
- Develop and present materials for executive leadership, governance forums and Board discussions. Provide strategic advice on significant social sustainability issues, emerging risks, partner concerns and regulatory changes.
- Serve as the company's lead on human rights, labour rights, social sustainability and just transition. Advise senior leaders and businesses on issues, international standards, trends and leading practices.
- Lead development and continual evolution of social sustainability policies, positions and priorities. Translate external expectations into practical business actions and long-term value creation opportunities.
- Conduct horizon scanning covering regulation, geopolitics, stakeholder expectations, civil society focus and investor trends. Provide insight and recommendations to leadership. Lead social sustainability disclosures – including the Modern Slavery Statement and Sustainability Report narratives and regulatory readiness activities, including wider social reporting obligations. Represent the company in industry associations, multi-stakeholder initiatives, investor engagements and expert forums. Build external credibility and influence emerging practice.
- Develop and manage strategic relationships with NGOs, governments, international organisations and civil society stakeholders to support dialogue, issue management and policy influence.
- Provide support to HSE&C, PC&C, procurement, projects and operating entities on social sustainability matters, due diligence, risk management and stakeholder issues.Contribute to the wider sustainability agenda by supporting team priorities, responding to emerging issues and providing expertise on cross-functional sustainability challenges and opportunities.

- Experience and ability to anticipate emerging risks, opportunities and external trends.
- Deep knowledge of human rights, labour rights, community engagement and just transition.
- Influencing and relationship management – builds trusted relationships and influences decisions across senior leaders, businesses and external partners.
- Ability to identify, assess and advise on sophisticated social risks and governance requirements.
- Interpretation of evolving regulations and external expectations and translating them into pragmatic business solutions.
- Represents bp with governments, NGOs, industry bodies and multi-stakeholder initiatives.
- Taking complex issues and distilling into clear, actionable insights for leadership and governance forums.
- Collaboration and business partnership working across functions to embed social sustainability considerations into business decision-making globally.
